Comunicado:

Release:
The members of the Observatory of
Health, Environment and Social Impact of Venezuela (OSIMAVEN), health professionals, researchers in the areas of
Health, environment and social who subscribe to this statement, we make a tacit
call for it to be provided Urgent health care for diplomat Álex Saab who, while
carrying out humanitarian and diplomatic work entrusted by the Government and
the people of Venezuela, was kidnapped in Cape Verde and then illegally taken
to a prison in the US. Currently, he has been in this situation for more than a
thousand days, against his will and that of his family, without the minimum
guaranteed rights, among which are receiving consular visits, health care from a doctor. It should be
noted that Álex Saab is a survivor of digestive
tract cancer, but also presents a diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
(currently without treatment or controls), uncontrolled arterial hypertension
and without current treatment, hypothyroidism (without treatment), anemia,
anorexia His lawyers have said that he has presented severe weight loss and "vomiting blood" that could
be a sign of reactivation of cancer
cells or a picture of paraneoplastic syndrome.
We want to explain to national
and international public opinion that the health situation of diplomat Álex
Saab is quite critical, he should not wait, since the current signs and his
underlying diseases show that he is undergoing very delicate complications that
immediately compromise his life. The natural course of these diseases are
neuropathies that evolve very quickly when patients do not receive treatment,
in addition, the reported signs of upper digestive bleeding are closely linked
to a complication that could be cardioembolic or paraneoplastic, both with high
mortality rates, for this Urgent medical intervention is warranted to perform
the respective paraclinical and imaging tests and initiate urgent treatment, in
a multidisciplinary health service with optimal conditions for a patient with
such complications, it is likely that the patient requires life support from a
Care Unit Intensive, as well as health care from various medical specialties,
as well as a diet according to his delicate health condition, since the food he
currently receives compromises his life.We appeal to international solidarity
for human rights and the right to life of diplomat Álex Saab, who has been
unjustly deprived of his freedom and his rights to receive humane and dignified
treatment, not only because of his status as a diplomat but because no Human
beings deserve or can be treated that way.
We, the undersigned, sign this statement and call for the
immediate release of diplomat Álex Saab so that he can receive optimal
medical care and save his life.
